Sasha P Does Colour Blocking at Music Meets Runway

Nigerian female rapper Sasha P, who is also Brand Ambassador for Samsung took to the stage on Saturday, 9th July at the Music Meets Runway Fashion Show, sponsored by Samsung, to promote the brand. The First Lady of Nigerian hip hop was spotted looking colourful in a jacket, bustier and trouser combo, taken from her fashion line, Eclectic by Sasha. Sasha exudes confidence as she combines two of this season's fashion trends, lace and colour blocking.

The weather report in most parts of Nigeria this season indicates stormy winds and heavy downpour.

This has certainly not rained on Miss Oyinda Fakeye's fashion parade. Oyinda is weather appropriate as she steps out in this metallic blue rain coat, paired with linen shorts and a t shirt. Ofcourse, it is still quite warm so she gets away with such light clothing.

The Creative Director & Founder of Burlesque Princess, dresses down for an afternoon of shopping, yet we love the infusion of her pin up persona in the detailing of her t shirt.

Le Petit Marche; The Documentary

Ever wondered how the back scenes at LPM worked and how they managed to put a fantastic show last December. Well you're just in luck! The LPM documentary for the December Grande Marche is ready, the LPM team wanted to share it with you fabulous customers! It shows the fashion event and market proper, as well as the model casting and other bits that went into creating the December event.

Style Inspiration: Solange Knowles

We all take inspirations from various people, trends, style gurus, everywhere! What is important is how you take that inspiration and make it your own. Onyinye Fafi Obi, Student and Fashion stylist is inspired by celebrity DJ and artist, Solange Knowles. Solange was spotted at the Victoria's Secret Swim Launch Party in this cute Boxing Kitten 'Zsou Zsou' Bra Top. Onyinye translates this look by pairing her ankara bra top with straight leg cotton pants.

The tan belt remains a key element in Onyinye's look, to which few other accessories are added, keeping it casual, chic and most importantly, her's.

Young Nigerian Designer, Rebecca Odubanjo to Showcase at Graduate Fashion Week

This week, Graduate Fashion Week celebrates its 20th anniversary with a star-studded gala where the country's fashion student elite will showcase their work. To mark the occasion Amber Le Bon, model daughter of Yasmin and rock star Simon, has been photographed modelling the pick of the students' collections. Of these students, is Nigerian designer, Rebecca Odubanjo, Fashion and Textiles designer at Colchester School of Art and Design.

An inspiring initiative that have launched the careers of power designers, such as John Galliano, Hussein Chalayan, Stella McCartney and Burberry’s Christopher Bailey. The GFW gala, to be held at Earls Court on Wednesday, 8th June 2011, is the opportunity for the country's top fashion colleges to present the creations of their best graduating alumni. It is amazing more Africans are being recognized for their input towards fashion across the globe.

Neks2u Style Spotter: Julian Louie's Tribal Spring Aldo Wedges

Inspired by Pieter Hugo's photography book The Hyena & Other Men, these funky print wedges are a mishmash of textiles designed by Julian Louie for Aldo Spring 2011. According to the designer, "The photographs [are] of a group of men in Nigeria who were street entertainers, and they trained hyenas. They had these crazy outfits that were half American sportswear that they found and half really traditional tribal pieces with a lot of interesting textiles and tassels. So the whole collection was about the mix of those two ideas."

Of course we spotted some fashionistas bold enough to pull of this statement wedge.

Austrian Lace Show and Documentary

Junior "Iro and buba" for Ituen Basi 

What originally started in 2009 as an initiative to document the history of Lace – especially Austrian Lace in Nigeria, by the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna, has since developed into a cooperation project merging culture, trade and fashion. The Austrian Embroidery Association in collaboration with the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy, recently celebrated history, culture, fashion and trade relationship between Austria and Nigeria for the last 50 years in Nigeria.

This relationship was a beautiful manifestation, bringing to the limelight, the works of four amazing Nigerian designers at the Austrian Lace Fashion Show, on Saturday 14th May 2011 at the Expo Centre, Eko Hotel, Lagos. Folake Folarin Coker of Tiffany Amber, Frank Osodi of House of Bunor, Godwin Mekwuye of Vivid Imagination and Ituen Basi for Ituen Basi were the designers selected, as part of this initiative to represent the rich textures of Austrian Lace

In a documentary produced and directed by Bola Balogun for Glam Networks, the Austrian Embroidery Association with the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy, take us on a journey that spans the last (5) five decades - building, strengthening, promoting and celebrating Nigeria through what we have come to know and love as ‘African Lace’. The documentary tells a brief story of the Austrian - Nigerian lace trade from inception - the manufacturers' first foray into Nigeria in search of new business opportunities, to the close ties that have been formed with some of these 'lace ladies' who have passed the trade on to their next generation. It tells us how Austrian /Nigerian relationship has grown beyond trade into culture with the 'aso - ebi' phenomenon and gradually, into fashion through the recent collaboration between the Austrian Embroidery Association and  the four Nigerian designers.

This documentary shows the dedication and commitment of the Austrian Embroidery Association to a market they have come to know and love; and have become so passionate about that they have decided to contribute to the growth and development of the Nigerian fashion industry through non stop collaborations with fashion designers in the Industry.
