Battle of the Brothers...Who is the best performer...M.I. or Jesse Jagz?

Both artists on stage

The very talented brothers put down a very impressive show last night, in a battle to convince guests present at the Wear Africa Charity Ball to donate towards the Jos crises victims. Jesse Jagz opened with an acappella, his lyrics an impassioned plea to give for a good cause, prompting a standing ovation from the guests. Before exiting the stage, In walks M.I. and the crowd goes crazy, his presence eliciting a more fevered response from the guests.

Which brother do I prefer? That's a tough one to answer!

While Jesse Jagz projects a youthful enthusiam and vigour, M.I.'s raw energy and amazing ability to lead the crowd into a frenzy makes him my preferred brother.

I've got mad love for both guys though, they really do put up a good show!

Check out videos for great performances by both artist....

Ciara brings sexy back in hot new video!

“I market it so good, they can wait to try me”, croons the Crunk/RnB singer as she throws down her best moves yet in her latest music video. The words raunchy, tomboy, sexy, comes to mind as I drooled watching her gyrating groin and toned abs flash across the screen. Beyonce, Shakira, Rihanna, none one of them have got nothing on Miss Cici she throws down some craxy a** flexing in her new video Ride from her 2010 album Basic Instinct.

The 24 year old artist is clearly not afraid to bear all for the camera

However, one wonders if this is a desperate strategy to sell more records, as the saying 'sex sells' rings true. I can't hate on Cici though, this babe has got some moves!

Check out the new video Ride featuring Ludacris

Girls just wanna have fun!

One may struggle to find a perfect location or locations to drink and dance the night away in Abuja, outside of the usual spots frequented. Nevertheless, I was undeterred and took the plunge, visiting bars and clubs outside of my usual territory. Unfortunately, the saying “better the devil you know...”,rang true on Saturday night as I trailed through a number of bars and clubs with ill-tasting margaritas, ghastly music and an undesirable crowd! I vowed never to traverse beyond my realms of night life in Abuja, as to my discovery, one will only be left with great dissatisfaction at the end of the night and a deep yearning for that familiar terrain, the usual crowd, the DJ belting out the familiar tunes, “Pop Champagne” by Dr Sid comes to mind.

I will not list out the locations of which I endured these nightmarish encounters for fear of destroying the reputation of these places. Needless to say, one can easily locate one of them in the heart of our Capital City, positioned in the latest Entertainment Centre, the decor being the only element to contend with.

Therefore, I am left with a piddling dilemma of diversifying my nightlife experience in Abuja. I entrust you dear readers to help me out, where does a single girl go to have fun in this city?!

Muma Gee - Diva or Damsel?

The bickering continues into the second episode, this time between Muma Gee and Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha. This week's tasks prove more challenging as the competitors go through a series of obstacle courses (like the ones in NYSC camp). In a reversal of fortune, Wierd MC took the last position, while Dare Art Alade won the challenge, thereby winning a night of sleep in an air-conditioned room, with a bed.

First Lap

Last Men standing

The celebrities proved surprisingly resourceful as they attempted to "beautify" the camp and their surroundings. With Dare Art Alade using a makeshift broom to sweep away dirt and Bob Manuel cutting up bamboo for beds, they were able to improvise, utilizing equipments available to create a more comfortable environment

Muma Gee changed into her swimming gear, once she had completed her chores and cooled off with a swim in the lake (she must have thought she was in a five star hotel on holiday, instead of a manky camp, where the bushes serve as a toilet!).

"OMG did you just say that"?"

More ridiculous statement by our celebrities.

Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha "I learn from little children, I learn from my house-help, I learn from everybody".

Muma Gee "I am disappointed with the reasoning faculty of Chioma".

Emeke Ike "She is not troubleshooting, she's trying to make peace".
"Chioma not wanting to forgive Muma Gee may be seen as nature. It may be her nature not to forgive".

No one was evicted this week (quite unexciting), due to the fact that the looser of the challenge, Weird MC is immune from eviction, being the winner from last week.

Stay tuned to see who gets evicted next week, if any one does.

Can you walk in them heels?

Milan Spring Summer 2010 Shoe Collection - Fendi

As the years have gone by, so also the inches of our heels increased. It seems we ladies are are no longer bothered about the long term effects that wearing heels for prolonged periods of time can cause i.e. bunions, corns etc. "As long as it makes me look good," we say, "I try to get used to the pain".

Lady Gaga wears a staggering 12 inch Alexander McQueen's in her "Bad Romance" music video.

The recent trends seen on the catwalks, red carpet and the music videos showcase a variety of extremely high heels, from platforms to wedgies to stilettos to clear heels. Abbey Lee Kershaw fell at Rodarte’s spring 2009 show wearing the famous Alexander McQueen shoes.

In the Spring fashion show, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Sasha Pivovarova, and Natasha Poly all declined to wear the 2010 Alien heels - the ones that Lady Gaga wore in her video Bad Romance.

Our fascination with shoes, especially ones that elongate our legs and give the impression us being taller, one may never comprehend. Nevertheless, there's nothing like a sexy pair of heels (high leather platforms, with colorful under-soles) that gets my blood pumping and heart racing!

Daddy Showkey hits Princess in the bid to win GUS Celebrity Showdown

Episode 1, and there is already a fight! I am sure you can guess who was involved in this fight. An offending statement made by Muma Gee and directed at Princess was received with great anger. An unexpected twist to the fight occurs when Daddy Showkey attempts to placate both parties, however ends up on the chopping board as loud-mouthed Princess counter-attacks him verbally.

The argument carries on through to the completion of the first activity, which involved all the celebrities balancing one foot on a small wooden platform placed in the water, close to the shore. This activity was aimed at testing their tenacity and poise, disqualifying the first contestant that fails to maintain the position. Funke Akindele got disqualified, with Weird MC emerging as the winner.

In a move he may later regret, Daddy Showkey tries to make peace with Princess and ends up hitting her (he claims wasn’t on purpose). Whilst, this was going on the rest of the celebrities clambered on with the second task, involving painting a calabash signifying the existence of each celebrity on the show. Once a celebrity is evicted, he/she is expected to destroy the calabash (I’m not superstitious, but it seems quite ominous if you ask me) before leaving the camp. Daddy Showkey, attempting to right his wrongs in a ‘gentlemanly’ fashion, profusely apologising to Princess –“E ma binu, e ma binu” (“Don’t be offended, don’t be offended”), but to no avail, causing even more umbrage and more hollering

When asked their opinion on whom they perceive will be evicted, almost everyone indicated their dislike for Muma Gee (she does come off a bit as a diva) and their expectation of her being the first evictee, with an exception of Bob Manuel, who considers Princess's attitude as being “overbearing”.

Captain's Cove

The show progressed, as the contestants were required to convene at the ‘Captains Cove’, where issues are discussed and opinions aired. Genevieve Nnaji being the presenter of the show, assumes the role of the diplomatic pacifier and urges the celebrities to openly discuss their discords (she really is fishing for gossip), but she comes off as patronising.

My expectations of a suspense filled celebrity reality show fell slightly short, as the first contestant to be evicted was Funke Akindele, having been disqualified from the first task. No drum rolls or tense music to build up the eviction moment. Just a simple “Funke I’m sorry, you are expected to leave the camp”, which she willingly accepted. She really was a pleasant contender (nothing at all like the character she plays – Jenifa), with a courteous and friendly personality. She exited the camp, breaking apart her calabash in the process.

"OMG did you just say that?!!"

It seems some of the celebrities may struggle, especially the ‘Nollywoodies’, without having a script to read from. Here are some "OMG, did you just say that?!!" statements:

Emeka Ike – “Princess brings out the celebrity wittiness in us”.

Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha- “Muma Gee, I don’t like her character but I like her as a person, as a human being, but as she goes about her daily activities, I don’t like”.

Daddy Showkey – “I’m not a violent person, because of the way I grow up. I believe I was trying make peace within them”.

Genevieve Nnaji – “We need to remember that we are public figures....we need to know that we are adults”.

Nevertheless, a few of the celebrities Bob-Manuel Udokwu, Dare Art Alade (he’s so lush!) and Weird MC are able to express themselves quite eloquently.

It will definitely be exciting to see who gets evicted next week.

Apple has launched again!

From iTunes to iPod to iLife to iSight to iWorks to iPhone to iPod Touch, you get the gist. Apple is here with a new invention. Again.

The new technology called the iPad was unveiled at an event in San Francisco on January 27 2010 by Apple boss, Steve Jobs. The touch screen device, which costs from $499 to $829, has been described to look like the iPhone, with similar functionalities, only bigger and better for browsing the net, watching videos or playing games.

The Back view of the iPad

The front view of the iPad

Although there have been other touchscreen tablet computers on the market - earlier this month, manufacturers such as Dell and HP showed off devices at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas – the new iPad is set to cause a storm in the electronics market. This has already been evident, as a handful of people braved the New York Easter cold by 4pm on Friday (9pm on Friday, Nigerian time) to wait for sales to commence at 9am the following morning (2pm Saturday, Nigerian time).

As much as I love the idea of having new technology, I doubt I’ll be rushing to the Apple store in Ceddi to get one anytime soon. We can be sure this is not the last version of the new iPad, as there are already talks to include a camera to enable videotelephony.

What say you? Are you going to be adding the iPad to your collection?

iPad Specification

  • 9.7 inch- (25cm-) multi-touch display
  • 1 GHz Apple processor
  • 16, 32 or 64 GB of flash memory
  • 0.5in- (1.25cm) thick
  • Weighs 1.5lbs (0.7kgs)
  • Wi-fi, bluetooth and 3G connectivity
  • Speaker, microphone
  • Accelerometer, compass

Warning - this post may contain spoilers!

While some of us spent Saturday night trawling the clubs and parties abound in Abuja, the rest of us spent the night recuperating from the effects of Friday (I know, I’m never drinking that much on an empty stomach ever!). Needless to say, there still had to some exiting action keeping me at home on a Saturday night (don’t worry not the type you think!).

So before I could get on this “action”, a few things needed to be sorted:

  • Appease the gods of NEPA
  • Make sure the microwavable popcorn has not been eaten
  • Create a movie playlist

Once all this had been taken care of, I plonked myself on the couch and let the magic of the movies take me away.........

First on my list was Black Rain, an 80’s action-thriller, starring Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia as police officers in a crime against a Japanese Mob. A typical 80’s cop movie, illustrating American police (the good guys) against Japanese gangsters (the bad guys), with your typical action soundtrack by Hank Zimmerman (you know the one with the loud drums and guitar). Unfortunately, the guy with good hair (Andy Garcia) dies, and his partner (Douglas) avenges his death. All in all, I thought was a good start to my movie marathon.

Next on my list was a romcom featuring Chris Rock and Kerry WashingtonI think I love my wife. This 2007 movie depicts your typical married couple, with kids, a stagnated sex life and a frustrated, sex-starved husband Richard (Chris Rock). An encounter with the sultry Nikki (Kerry Washington) suddenly casts doubt over his typically resilient self-control. Moments before it seems Richard will consummate his feelings for Nikki, he realizes how much he has to lose with the love he feels for his children and wife, so he runs out, leaving Nikki. He rushes back home and reconnects with his wife (Gina Torres). Like other Chris Rock productions, it definitely did not fail to deliver quite a number of good laughs and slaps on the knee. This falls in my “watch again” list (even though I have watched it like 3 times before).

The third contender, a 2007 thriller film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino – Death Proof (you’ve got to have a Quentin Tarantino in any movie list!). The film centres on a psychopathic stunt man who stalks young women before murdering them in staged car accidents using his “death-proof” stunt car. The film is a tribute to muscle cars, exploitation, and slasher film genres of the 1970s starring Kurt Russell, ZoĆ« Bell, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd, Sydney Tamiia Poitier,Tracie Thoms, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rose McGowan. An interesting film, don't think I'll be watching it again anytime soon though.

And last but not the least, one of my all time favourites, Scary Movie 2! A group of teenagers are tricked by their professor into visiting a haunted house for a school project. Starring The Wayan Bros, Anna Farris and Regina Hall. Unfortunately, they encounter a lot more than a bargained for i.e. a house filled with secrets and ghosts. A sequel to the first parody, SM 2 delivers more fun-poking at many horror films, including The Exorcist, Poltergeist, The Haunting, and What Lies Beneath. Although it wasn’t as good as its first counterpart, its crude, idiotic and vulgar humour garners a few good laughs and make for a "scarily" enjoyable watch.

So what did you all get up to on Saturday night?

O Abuja My Abuja!

As I stood on a sandhill, underneath a scanty tree barely functional as a shade from the scorching sun, overlooking the roadblock, clutching desperately unto one pure water, wondering how I got into this mess!

The day started off as every other. I got off work and set off to the immigration office, with the intention to collect my long overdue passport. I, unfortunately, like most other Nigerians, had previously handed my details to an immigration officer (of course, with a bit more money than is needed), in order to make the entire process quicker and less stressful. On this particular day, I walked into the building, past the impatient patrons and the frustrated officials, assured that my time spent in the building will be no more than 20mins. Boy did I get that wrong!

This first roadblock – NEPA don take light (power cut, no electricity, no light)! The situation proved even more exasperating for the officials to handle, as the customers were getting more restless.

There was no immediate rumbling sound of a standby generator, nor was there any reassurance that power will be restored shortly. However, everything was at a standstill.

An hour later, the lights came back on, order was restored and after another 15mins, the servers were back up (I didn’t realise it took that long for a computer to boot).

As I collected my new ECOWAS logoed passport, I shamefully resorted to thoughts of never revisiting the aforementioned office.

The second roadblock – this WAS a literal roadblock. A truck has collided with another, causing a complete blockage of both lanes going to and from Nnamdi Azikwe. After opting to try a different route through a neighbouring village, I ended up with a dust filled windscreen, an overheated engine and back to where I started off from!

Two hours later, the emergency and fire engine patrol service managed to get the accidental truck unto the sidelines, allowing for gradual clearing of the obstructed road. Only then was I able to get down from my oneiric sandhill and drive safely into town.

My point in all this being, I am sick and tired with the constant power outage, disrupting the flow of work in major government agencies, in our everyday lives period! I am disappointed in the time handling and management of critical issues, such as an accidental blockage of a major road (I can’t imagine how many people missed their flights). And most of all I am sorry for any lives lost in this disaster.

It’s only right you all witness what happened.......

Some travellers rest as they find solace under my tree

All cars brought to a standstill

The crane finally arrives to tow the truck

The truck could only be dragged unto the road side

Passengers watched and waited

The watered down residue from the truck

Exhibit No. 1

Exhibit No.2

The crew clean up after a hard day's work

Make way for the crane!

Travellers struggling to breath because of the dust

A lady waits while her shoes are being fixed by a cobbler

Unfortunately not all of us could leave in one piece!
